“I must do right by the children…”

Do we realize that saving our children requires that we ALL “must do right by the children”?

I know Peggy Robertson, a mom and a Colorado teacher who helped found United Opt Out.

I have more respect for her as a human being and as a teacher than I have for any of the bought-and-paid-for politicians who shill for the profit making CCSS (Yes, it is private. Yes, it was created to make profits.) and all of the profit making multinational fund managers and “philanthropic” foundation investors who are part of the coup against sane levels of valid testing.

Bill Gates once famously and publicly stated that it would take another ten years to see if the present “experiment” will work. Since his own children are not being experimented on, he avoids mentioning the direct and indirect profit taking he makes via…

  1. People have no idea how many teachers have quit forever because of the testing. I am one of those teachers, and I have dedicated my life to speaking out against corporatization of public education. But thousands never say why they left; they just disappear, and our schools are worse off for it. Other teachers stay in the classroom and administer the tests even though they know they are harming the children. Kudos to Peggy for not only speaking up, but for staying in the classroom. Most of us left the kitchen, but Peggy’s not afraid to be in the oven. She is the last person who should be criticized.

This, unfortunately, is precisely the plan of corporate education reform; it is called crisis creation. Dismantle a school system by “underfunding” the core necessities and then people will welcome privatization in any form with open arms. Replace qualified career teachers with smiling faces who have had 5 weeks of training and with computer programs (classes, test preparation, tests, etc.) for private profit from public taxes.
The attempted coup against public education via attacks on teachers and their profession is in full attack mode. The corporate media does not inform parents or the general public who are nearly clueless about the mass movement of career teachers out of the classrooms across America.
