We active and retired teachers refuse to be silenced or kept in silence.

Where is the leadership of the Illinois Education Association? Please tell us what is happening now that the Illinois legislature has approved the pillage of pensions for active and retired teachers via SB1 on December 3rd as our early Christmas present for 2013.

We are not some kind of stereotypical grandparents complaining about not hearing from the kids. We are the people who paid into the retirement system with 9.4% of our gross income for decades. We also paid our union dues in addition. We need to keep informed about current and future income. It pays for food, medication, rent/mortgages, and other necessities.

Silence IEAThe IEA silence is destroying morale.

Thankfully, the Illinois Retired Teacher Association has filed a lawsuit that even the national media has covered. (Read HERE.) Our union leadership has semi-assured some of us today, December 28th, via email.

Colleagues:
On Friday, a lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of Senate Bill 1 was filed in Cook County Circuit Court by the Illinois Retired Teachers Association (IRTA).
The We Are One coalition is continuing to move forward with its own constitutional lawsuit over SB1. Nothing has changed.
Our coalition continues to consult with its attorneys to prepare to bring the most effective suit possible.
Our suit will be designed to defend successfully the constitutional rights of hundreds of thousands of working and retired public employees and retirees in Illinois’ three major state retirement systems.
WAOI will review the complaint filed Friday, but we anticipate our overall legal strategy will remain the same. That is, we will challenge SB 1 as violating the constitution and ask for a stay of the legislation’s implementation pending a ruling on its constitutionality.
We will keep you informed of new developments.

Hey, IEA Leaders!
LEAD! This stuff is not a classified state secret.
Breaking the silence with this semi-promise of something at this date is absurd.
130,000+ members and many more thousands of retirees expect you to tell us – loud and clear – what is what. We need to hear from you.
One more hint: Real leaders do not treat their members this way. LEAD. NOW. Tell us what is happening.
Sincerely,
Me and 130,000+ Active and Retired Teachers

We active and retired refuse to be silenced or kept in silence.

PS: Many thanks to Gary Elman and the rest of the IRTA leadership. For all, from all states, who wish to show their support, please read HERE.
