Secretary of Education Arne Duncan blatantly declared to a meeting of school superintendents that it was “fascinating” that so many opposed to the expensive high stakes testing of Common Core State Standards (CCSS) were “white suburban moms who – all of a sudden – their child isn’t as brilliant as they thought they were, and their school isn’t quite as good as they thought they were.”

Moms are supposed to protect their children – even white suburban moms. That is what moms do. Doesn’t Duncan know the divide and conquer strategy doesn’t work against moms? (Race, geographical location, perceived economic status, and anything else inferred by Duncan.) Mommies protect their children from injustice, unfairness, bullies and all those who serve the Corporate Education Industrial Complex. White collar child abuse is still child abuse as far as ALL mommies are concerned.
Dads are more heavily and personally involved with their children than any other time in recent American history. PARENTS protect their children. Yes, even white suburban daddies.
In addition to working insane numbers of hours, dads empty the garbage and do dishes, laundry, grocery shopping, diaper changing and more. Being a good daddy today means “no wimping out” allowed.
Well, daddies, where is the rage? Put your testosterone to work protecting mommies from insult and your children from corporate abuse disguised as education reform.
In spite of long and exhausting work demands placed on moms and dads, now is the time to take a stand against Race to the Top, CCSS and all those other high stakes tests, texts, programs and other money making schemes wrapped in the cloak of Corporate Education Reform. Attend local school board meetings and face those board members with reality. Demand that insane levels of expensive high stakes testing and all the super expensive stuff surrounding it stop immediately. See how to legally refuse the testing from the National Opt-Out movement HERE.
