Create an image of public schools as hellholes of slaughtered children, of constant fear and terror, that is odious to parents and taxpayers. Frighten their children into privatized charter schools where parents can buy a brand that provides the illusion of safety that is “well worth the money” to “keep your children safe” from the bogeyman created by those who can make a profit from fear mongering.
Who can help the profiteers profit from fear mongering? The politicians whose coffers are filled by privatization charter contributors. In Illinois, Gov. Pat Quinn is the hatchet man disguised as the Patron Saint and Protector of Our Children. “IL Gov. Quinn Calls for Shooting Drills in All Public Schools. Read HERE.
“Starve the Beast” is a method of destroying public services in order to sell them off to profit making corporations and/or non-profit organizations who pay their executives obscenely high salaries buffered with additional perks and benefits.
Activist Grover Norquist is a well-known proponent of the strategy and has famously said, “My goal is to cut government in half in twenty-five years, to get it down to the size where we can drown it in the bathtub.” (Let us hope this does not include school children.)
What toll does this fear mongering take on the children exposed to it? That is never mentioned by sanctimonious politicians receiving political contributions from the fear mongers bankrolling the stress and insanity. The bank-rollers then spend their money on other spin-doctors who panic-herd parents toward the brand that a target group of consumers can afford – in addition to the tax money charter corporations receive which has been drained from public school budgets.
Gov. Quinn and all the other sell-out political fear-mongers should be ashamed – very ashamed. How can we hold them responsible for the harm inflicted on our school children, or must they await a just retribution in Hell? There isn’t a Hell hot enough or long enough to provide adequate punishment for the affects of horrifying thousands of children.
Politicians such as Quinn are not engaged in education reform. They work in the sales department for charters.
Destroy public schools, teachers, unions, pensions and public education. There is a lot of money in this part of the War on the Middle Class.
We must reclaim reform.
